Rapid tournaments in the conurbation 21

Rapid fills many of the one-day events of the conurbation: a single day of play and a result the same evening. Katowice has its St Nicholas rapid in December, the Voivode’s Cup in October and the memorial to the Nine from Wujek, while the summer Youth Palace tournament plays rapid groups for younger players and the economics school cup comes round every March. In Tarnowskie Góry the Gwarkowski Rapid falls on a September Sunday, and Tychy holds its open rapid championships in June.

Sosnowiec plays rapid all year: the Four Seasons rounds in Maczki, the Independence tournament in the Środula community hall, summer holiday events and Szachy na Niwce at Fabryka Food in July. The Jaworzno Grand Prix alternates ten-minute rapid with blitz on Friday evenings in the MCKiS chess room, Gliwice has its children’s tournaments at primary school 12, and Czeladź adds a rapid day to the Forteca weekends.
